The Empire of Rolance (Rō-lance), Commonly known as Rolance, is the prevalent empire of the Cyranian Continent, located in centermost region of the continent, whilst bordering the of The Kingdom of Hyland to the north. Apart from this, Rolance's central location in Cyrus makes itself an undisputed hub for trade domestic and foreign in the region.
The Empire establishes itself as a Crowned Republic, yet functionally an absolute monarchy; which is also the oldest standing monarchy in the world. The reigning monarch is Emperor Agnus II, however, incapacitated; which by the law of the empire, transfers the Imperial Power to the Crowned heir who reigns in the Emperor's absence as Prince-Regent Logan.
Rolance consists of 9 Provinces: Merdia, Persius, Maeve, Pleucur, Artima, Calenti, Leonus, Atalus, Vestius. Each province reigns autonomously and is presided over by a Premier which translates into the rank of Duke/Duchess; However, abide by the supremacy of the Imperial Law, which is legislated through the Senate, though the practice of federalism.
The name 'Rolance' is a portmanteau, with 'Ro' meaning 'Low', and 'Lance' meaning 'Point'. Thus, the combining of the two roots in translation, forms the word, Rolance (Low Point). The oddness of the portmanteau it may be. The word Rolance, in practice, sounds much befitting without the breaking of its roots. Commonly, Rolance denotes the Empire, whilst the term 'Rolancent' refers to its inhabitants.
With the Death of Augustus I in, his son who took the regal name of Augustus II proclaimed the Imperial Enactment of Unified Provinces, establishing the Apricot Concord. Which would be the foundation to Empire of Rolance. Augustus' proclamation would inherently declare war against the neighboring kingdoms who opposed his reign: Merdia, Persius, Maeve, Artima, Calenti, and Vestius. However, Pleucur & Leonus would join the Concord as it proved beneficial to establish a unified realm.
With the backing of Pleucur and Leonus, Augustus' military boasted 200 thousand strong; which enabled him to launch a 2 front war against the Peridiaus Unanimity, Calenti, and Artima-Maeve. The war persisted over a course of 28 years, which ranged from sieges, pillaging, to razing of anything that may aid Augustus' opposition. The Peridiaus Unanimity was the last to remain its ground, fighting to the bitter end. The War for Amalgamation would result in a historical all-time high of deaths, approximation in the tens of millions. The Aftermath would consist of Imperial Provenance of Rolance, and the coronation of Maximus de Mæledius, the regal name Augustus would take as Emperor of Rolance.
However, Maximus' reign would end shortly as his arrogance got the best of him as he was challenged by a mere common man named Demetrius. A battle to the death, which resulted in Maximus being decapitated at the hands of Demetrius, and by ancestral law the victor would take prize in all that the defeated possessed. Thus, Demetrius would be proclaimed as Vorn de Đrægonia, the Emperor of Rolance who would establish the ever-lasting Đrægonia Dynasty centuries after his death.
The Suraga addendum would be a period in time, where Rolance was suffering from a mass influx of refugees, from the west. This influx persisted over 7 months until Avercee I, the great-grandson of Vorn; decreed the nationalization of the refugees and granted them land they could call home on the condition that they pledge their loyalty to the crown. Which refugees accepted without hesitation... This agreement would fruit in new technologies, such as the mending of Platinum, which birth the famed Platinum Knights, the elite soldiers of the imperial crown.
The Great Schism
During the reign of Alexius II; Rolance suffered from corruption, assassinations of nobility, and succession of territory. The culprit behind the this would suprisingly be Pontifex (Pope) Gasparo of the Laphicetian Orthodox, who waged for the downfall of House Đrægonia in order to establish the Holy Empire of Rolance. His plans would ultimately weaken the power of the imperial crown; causing unrest among the populous which lead to the Blaze of Pendrago. The Platinum Knights would soon catch on to Gasparo plans, dragging him to the throne room with a sword at his throat; subsequently forcing him to confess his crimes. His verdict would find him guilty of high treason, for orchestrating the transgression against the crown under oath to the Orthodox. Gasparo execution would lead to the reformation of the Church, establishing the crown as the voice and champion of Maotelus. However, Rolance would never recover it's lost territory in the mass unrest it presided, leading to the current day Rolance which comprises much of the original territory of Apricot Concord.
The basic system of government in Rolance is a Crowned Republic, which practices democratic ideals with a crown as head of state & government. However, as illustrated in the Imperial Law, the monarch has no clear restriction on their political power, making Rolance functionally an Absolute Monarchy. However what exemplifies Rolance as a crowned republic is it practice in a devolved government, allowing the 9 provinces to reign autonomously at the leisure of the Senate
The Imperial Senate of Rolance, otherwise the Senate is the bicameral legislative body of Rolance. Comprised of 108 commonly-appointed officials, which 12 represent each of the 9 provinces in the Cubiculum Plebe (Chamber of Commons), and the 8 respective lords of the realm (excluding in monarch) in the Dominus Concilium (Lords' Council) Each representative must be directly endorsed by their respective lord as well as be sanctioned by the monarch themselves before taking oath as loyal servants to the crown & country.
The power of the Senate comes in the form of a contract between the monarch. Which simply states upholding the integrity of the crown & country, whilst exhibiting only the verity & legitimacy of the people. In the event that the Senate fails to uphold this contract, the monarch may dissolve and or dismiss it at their pleasure. Dismissing that fact, the duties of the Senate consist of establishing & exercising national policy including, but not limited to defining uniform law, advise the crown, regulation of national currency, promoting the welfare of the people, the oversight of domestic otherly affairs.
